Twin Horror

Our good pals Eskimo Twins have been catching the ears of a fair few tastemakers with their productions lately. Include Fake Blood, Boys Noize, plus Radios 1’s Zane Lowe, Kissy Sellout and Annie Mac in that list and you can see why people are starting to stand-up and take notice of the pair.

Now ahead of the chills and darkness of winter, Eskimo Twins release their Wax:On Music debut, the ‘Horror EP’. A frighteningly stylish duo of mutant variants where the glitchy acid-drenched techno in ‘Horror’ supports French sounding arpeggios and voice-box vocals, and the analogue 808 noodlings, Moog grumblings and sci-fi squeakings glare menacingly at the optimistic vintage piano house riffs of ‘Peck’.

The 'Horror EP' will be released on 12'' vinyl and beatport on 16/11/2009 on Wax:On Music. Other download sites will follow 2 weeks later.'Horror' is backed with 'Peck (12'' Dub Version)' and remixes by Joe and Will Ask?, Doorly, and Cassette Jam.

Harry Benson December Chart

This month I've been expanding my usual sets a little bit, playing more deep house and chilled out tracks, as shown from the amazing Joy Orbison remix of Love Cry. Special mention goes to the Renaissance Man edit of You Got The Love, an absolutely blinding edit already built on a fantastic remix.

I've also introduced the first of my own tracks under a new moniker Harrison, which I'll be creating more house and techno tracks under. tThis time collaborating with magicbag's very own Youandewan, a fantastic producer and all round nice guy.

1. &ME - On [Frontroom Recordings]
2. Youandewan, Harrison - Untitled [CDR]
3. Florence & The Machine - You Got The Love (The XX Remix - Renaissance Man Edit) [CDR]
4. Butch - Disco Shhh [Bangbang!]
5. Harry Benson - Desperado [Get Flavor]
6. Four Tet - Love Cry (Joy Orbinson Remix) [Domino]
7. Salvatore Freda - Tiramisu (DJ Madskillz Remix) [Area Remote]
8. Art of Tones feat. JAW - Call The Shots (Llorca Naive Dub) [2020 Vision]
9. Worthy - Eight Yay Eight [Anabatic]

A Fond Farewell.

Dear Friends.

Its time for us here at Kill The Rhythm to part ways with Nation Of Shopkeepers, as of today.

6 Months down the line and we feel there's not much more we can do. We've given you the best DJ's from around the world for free in the smallest venue imaginable, as well as the best up and coming talent, every Friday night without fail. 6 Months of partying, drinking, good music, dancing. Even some empty promises & backstabbing. This isn't goodbye, just a little break while we catch our breath.

A BIG BIG BIG thankyou to Broady, Harry, Bruce, the 580 Family, Casper C, Skull Juice, Stopmakingme, Mumdance, In Flagranti, Renaissance Man, Hostage, A1 Bassline for never turning up, Jo Kira, Heppy J, Felix Cartal, Haus, Not Quite Tom, Gatto Viola, Jera, Digital Future, Distinction, Skips, In Flagranti, Polaroid Soundsystem, Raised by Wolves, Joe and Will Ask?, Run Hide Survive, Grum, Ocelot, 16Bit, Delphic, That hot girl who came every week and I never knew her name, Tom the sound guy, the people who stole the DJs riders every week, and every useless agent we've had to work with, and many many more I forgot to mention.

We'll see you soon,
Lee x

You've Got The Love

image: yimmy yayo

I've got nothing else to do this evening. All the remixes I have to do are finished, I've eaten my own weight in food, and I've drank all the cups of tea I think I can handle for one day. So, I thought I'd post up some music from my favourite band at the moment - The XX.

If you haven't heard about them before (which you probably have, as no one will shut up about them), they are just an awe-inspiring band. I can't even exactly put into words why I like them so much. They are even better than that scene in Rocky IV where the Robot comes in and says "Happy Birthday Paulie".

Their self-titled album is out now, so go buy it.

Pros and Cons

September 25th is nearly upon us now, with that date comes many many students to Leeds, which is a blessing for KTR but also the bane of my life for selfish reasons such as it taking me longer to get served in Ainsleys on my lunch break. But I can't really complain, as aside from messing about in queues and being indecisive it also lets us get the Autumn partys started at Kill The Rhythm. If you don't know by now, we've got the lovely Dan Avery aka Stopmakingme from London for our Freshers Party, which is pretty much guaranteed to kick off. Obviously FREE entry 'cos thats how we roll over here.

Stopmakingme has a recent mix up on Soundcloud for your aural delights and an excellent mix it is too, i'm listening to it right now, thats how good it is. Excellent cosmic / disco / indie / techno / vibes. Here's a link to the page if you fancy checking it out:

P.s. For a bit of comic relief here's a classic video of a Dog trying to scuttle a young gamer.

Ghost Flashin'

A few of you may have noticed that I have started to produce my own solo stuff away from the usual Youth Attack! stuff I've been concentrating on over the last few years. With Ghosts Of Venice I went down the root of my passion for Filter House and the way House producers in the 90's used to do their thang, creating bad ass loops sampled from oldschool Funk and Disco records. Here's a remix I did of a Feadz track. Check out the Myspace page for more tracks. Who said French house was dead?

Fabric Of Win

I was supposed to post this on Friday, but i've been ill - don't worry its not Swine Flu, I hope. It's also pretty hard to do anything with this prehistoric laptop.

This is the new single from Kitsuné golden boys Joe and Will Ask?. The release features a Club Mix and A Late night Mix - which is a self-remix showcasing their more minimal techno side. Enjoy.

While you're at it, go and grab their remix of the Grum track 'Heartbeats' which is out now on Beatport.

Staying in on a Saturday night? Shock horror. Trying very hard to keep myself away from watching 'The X Factor' by redesigning the blog and listening future releases for the label. Anyway, enough of that.

Fueled By Ramen

Its brilliant when i'm by myself at work, aside from the obvious factor of doing very little, I also get to eat the fantastic Korean Pot Noodles they sell here in the Uni shop without anyone complaining that they stink. Which they do, but they taste godly so it isn't any of my concern.

I'm going to post a few tracks today which have all been stuck in my head for the past few weeks, or at least since I heard them, and are definitely deserving of been heard by everyone.

First up is the Todd Terje remix of the new Shit Robot track, Simple Things. Such a simple yet effective build, a lovely stompy beat, takes a long time to get there but when it does its pretty much perfect.

Theo Parrish is one of those cats that is always held in high regard but I've still not got round to seeing him out yet, despite pretty much everyone I know seeing him. The same goes for Carl Craig, although I have seen him, alas can't really remember much of it. I do remember having an amazing night so he must have played a belter. Here CC shakes up Theo's Falling Up and gives it a nice warm techy feel, enjoy.

Science > God

That above was the title of an excellent e-mail that recently went around the Chemistry department, I'd have to agree with it too.

First track today is an excellent one from Leeds finest electronic group, 20:20's very own Audiojack. A nice vintage sounding Piano line but skewed about over a nice housey beat yet keeping a very fresh sound, the whole album is definitely worth a look too.

DOWNLOAD: Audiojack - Jack The Keys : http://www.zshare.net/audio/64731716ab8363ae/

Secondly we have a Juan Maclean remix of Pom Pom by Matthew Dear from his cracking Asa Breed album. Juan did a few remixes for this release and I'd say i prefer the second, a bit more squelchy and acidy, something Juan doesn't seem to do as much nowadays, or maybe it's me not paying attention. Probably a bit of both, regardless, it's dead good.

French Luv'

I'm almost back from my second holiday in under a month. The sun of Ibiza, 2CB, Partying, and other things seems to have refuelled my love for French Filter House, and it doesnt get much better than this. 'Cryda Luv' as far as I know is just a massive fan of the now defunct 'Crydamoure' label. The August mix will be available soon, but for now you'll have to settle for Julys one.

Cryda Luv' Mixtape of July

Tracklisting :
01: Cryda Luv’ - Intro
02: Ashford & Simpson - Bourgie Bourgie (Joe Claussell's Classic Remix)
03: Cryda Luv' - My Venus
04: Funk Legacy - What U Gonna Do Baby
05: Buffalo Bunch - Buffalo Club
06: pantone - Happy Go Lucky
07: Sebastien Leger - Rapsody
08: Daft Punk - Burnin' (Slam Remix)

14: Cryda Luv' - We Need Sun (Allen Walker remix)
15: Michael Jackson - Ain't No Sunshine

Getting Old

The past few weeks have entailed buying a house, turning 25 and all sorts of other things I never thought I'd ever get round to doing. Probably a good thing in the long run.

One noticeable thing about getting a bit older is my music (and clothing) taste getting better and sharper.

Here are a few nice steady, deep tracks for a miserable Leeds day. Bit of techno, bit of house, all good

Oh and I hereby decree that this blog needs more pictures of girls, get on it fellow bloggers.

Darling Buds Of August.

We got this in our inbox a few days ago, and thought it was about time we shared it with you. This is a bootleg remix of the Youth Attack! track 'Yo Paris' by Darling Farah. He has quite a talent for making dark and deep techno. It builds slowly, but is well worth the wait.

Check out the blog on friday as we will be posting up the new single from Joe And Will Ask?. Awesome!

VIP Riding

We're almost set on our Youth Attack! collaboration track with London youngsters TEDD. It's a bassy little jam with a sort of - dare I say it - Fidget House vibe. Good for heating up the winter dancefloors when it see's a release though. In the meantime, I thought I would share with you a track that is a staple in pretty much every set we play, and has been ever since it got dropped in our inbox almost a year ago. Although the original of this track is one of my favourite dance tracks of all time, this version comes quite close.

Analog Sessions

I recently completed a mix for the brand new club night launching at Mine, Leeds in September called Analog, they've got some amazing lineups already booked including our very own Youth Attack! along with friend of KTR, Foamo.

As a build up to the night, Dom Analog has been asking various artists to create mixes for "Analog Sessions". The mixes span genre, tempo and length. Dom himself, Beerz and myself have all contributed so far, and they've got Kid Cola [madamevisage], Sampletramp [State of Flux] and their very own Hugo Bass.

On their blog over at http://thisisanalog.blogspot.com/ they've just released my mix, and this is what they had to say...

"ANALOG SESSIONS 003 - Mixed By Harry Benson

Next in our series is a fantastic techy, tribally mix by Harry Benson, resident DJ at Leeds' most exciting new club night, Kill The Rhythm. Harry's perfectly captured the sound of Summer 09, with big tracks from the likes of Solo, Renaissance Man, Tiga etc..."

Just a quick one today, been awful busy lately so apologies for the lack of posts, got some great stuff in the pipeline though, including the long awaited KTR Podcast.

Even though MSTRKRFT's new album was pretty awful, Heartbreaker seems to be the gem. The video seems to be doing the rounds on the blogosphere and the music channels, and its pretty beautiful.
